Dear Subscribers,

Last week’s watch covers:

  • 21 gazetted notices published between 31 July and 4 August 2026,
  • nine consultations now open for comment, and
  • 18 reported judgments handed down between 23 July and 4 August 2026.

Three items deserve immediate attention:

  • the FIC’s draft Directive 12, which makes annual submission of the RMCP to the Centre compulsory for nine categories of accountable institution — comment closes 21 August 2026, first filing 30 September 2026;
  • the four sets of draft Railway Safety Act regulations, all closing 30 August 2026; and
  • the draft Taxation Laws Amendment Bill proposal to limit the inter-spousal donations tax exemption, closing 28 August 2026.

On the case law side, the standout is FJL v TGO, in which the Gauteng High Court referred an acting judge to the Legal Practice Council over AI-generated citation errors — the first SA ruling of its kind against a judicial officer.
