National Council of Provinces passes three bills

 

The National Council of Provinces passed three bills at its virtual plenary sitting on Tuesday.

The bills were the Division of Revenue Bill, the Employment Equity Amendment Bill and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Amendment Bill.

 

 

 FINANCE

 

 

Concourt to hear SAHRC’s case against 3 banks

 

The Constitutional Court will hear the SA Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) case against three major banks for their tendency to apply for default judgments in the high court against debtors who owe amounts as small as R7000 on their home loans.

 

 

MEDICAL

 

 

NHI gathers momentum, despite opposition parties giving it the thumbs down

The Portfolio Committee on Health has voted to move forward with the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill as ANC MPs muscled through their majority in voting for the bill to be debated in Parliament.

 

 

 LABOUR

 

 

No severance pay for employee who refused Covid vaccination

A long-term employee who was retrenched because she refused to get a Covid vaccination was not entitled to a severance package, the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) has ruled.
